My mother toiled for grain, for labour, for children for a roof, rice, roti, cloth Let’s walk with our head up against the right Chief Minister Siddaramaiah’s government, which successfully marked a year in office, succinctly epitomises the above poetic lines of Kannada poetwriter P Lankesh, as a testimony to a government which has tirelessly been championing the voice of the poor, the downtrodden and the oppressed, implementing all its poll pledges. It is only through efficient management of human and capital resources, providing efficient governance and financial stability, that a State can progress on the path of development.
It is in this context one should appreciate the State government’s sterling achievement in the last one year which has provided a model governance by successfully shepherding the State from Championing the Voice of Poor, Oppressed the injustices and administrative distress meted to it through its pro-people welfare and development policies to become a role model for the country. This is no mean achievement.
The Congress government, which assumed power a year ago, under the leadership of Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and Deputy Chief Minister D K Shivakumar, faced innumerable challenges. That the State government, despite inheriting heavy financial burden passed from the previous government, totally indifferent government the Centre, severe drought, and global economic crisis, ensured that these did not impinge the lives of people, goes to the credit and ingenuousness of its tall leaders and their people vision.
When the new government, under leadership of Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and Deputy Chief Minister D K Shivakumar, took over, the Covid pandemic had taken a heavy toll on its administration and infrastructure resources, the price of essential commodities had skyrocketed, people were reeling under inflation and to top it all, drought prevailed across the State. The State government could not wish these things away and faced a challenging and uphill task before it. It, however, rose to the occasion, undauntedly. Soon after assuming office, despite the opposition’s continuous false propaganda that it was all “election gimmick”, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, promptly issued the government notification for the implementation and roll out of the “five guarantees” on which poll promise the people voted the Congress to power.
Following the speedy and timely implementation of the guarantees the government was able to ensure that the farmers did not suffer from severe drought nor did it lead to mass migration of jobs and livelihood elsewhere.
